Can a settled patio or pool deck be raised?

Patios and pool decks share a symptom—not the same risk

Both surfaces can settle and hold water, but a pool deck has additional relationships that a normal patio does not. Could water beneath the slab come from a leak?

Settlement near pool plumbing does not prove a leak, but recurring washout, persistent wet soil, unexplained pool-water loss, or repeated movement deserves investigation. Lifting before the source is addressed can hide symptoms without stopping the loss of support.

  • A limited number of mostly intact panels have dropped.
  • The slab can move without binding against coping, foundations, steps, or walls.
  • The intended elevation improves or preserves a safe water path.

Conditions that may favor replacement or specialist review

  • Concrete is badly fractured, scaled, delaminated, or covered by a failing overlay.
  • Movement involves the pool shell, coping, bond beam, retaining wall, or house foundation.
  • A suspected leak or active erosion has not been evaluated.
  • Raising the slab would block a drain or send water toward the building or pool.
  • Thin or unknown construction makes controlled lifting unpredictable.

Injection methods and finished surfaces

Polyurethane and cementitious lifting systems both require planned injection points. Ask how many holes are expected, their approximate size, where they will be placed, and what patch material will be used. A technically successful patch can still differ from an older decorative finish in color and texture.

Pool decks deserve a written plan for protecting the water, equipment, coping, drains, and coating. Confirm whether cleanup includes debris control around the pool and whether the pool must remain covered or unused during the work.

Outdoor-slab cost factors

Cost varies with panel count, void volume, access through gates, proximity to the building or pool, finish protection, plumbing and drain constraints, required lift, material, minimum service charge, and separate joint, crack, coating, or drainage work. Tight equipment access and careful hole placement can matter more than square footage.

Before-and-after expectations

Leveling aims to improve elevation and support. It does not renew the surface, recolor patches, remove stains, restore coating, rebuild coping, repair pool plumbing, or guarantee perfect drainage.
